Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Mathematics at Kuwait University, which was established in 1975.  Our department has about 33 faculty members with research interests in several areas of mathematics and financial mathematics. The Department of Mathematics is now among the largest departments in the University, as it provides teaching for about 43 different courses every semester distributed over about 139 sections.  These sections not only serve the Department, but also serve the other Departments and faculties, such as the College of Petroleum and Engineering, the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of  Allied Health, the Faculty of Education, and the Faculty of Science.

The Department of Mathematics offers bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics, and Financial Mathematics. Moreover, it offers graduate study leading to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) in many areas of mathematics. The department has strength in algebra, analysis, computational mathematics, differential equations, differential geometry, discrete mathematics and dynamical systems.

The Department gives special importance to research activity. The salient research areas in the Department include Graph Theory, Combinatorial Objects, Combinatorics, Numerical Analysis, Algebra, Special Functions, Differential Geometry, Mathematical Modeling Techniques, Differential Equations, Operator Theory, Functional Analysis, Approximation Theory, Topology and Dynamical systems.

We invite many renowned mathematicians from all over the world to visit the department throughout the year to deliver talks and collaborate with our faculty members. To learn more about our department, its academic programs and its faculty and their research interests, I invite you to navigate through our web pages.
