(M.Sc. Mathematical Sciences)

1. Admission Policy

1.1. Admission Types Allowed:

The MMS program will be available for full-time, part-time, degree, and non-degree students.

1.2. Admission Requirements:

  • The following major fields of study from the following colleges are accepted to apply for the M.Sc. program in Mathematical Sciences:


i) Faculty of Science

ii) Faculty of Engineering

iii) Faculty of Medicine

iv) Faculty of Business Administration

v) Faculty of Education (only Mathematics Education)

vi) Any other majors with minor in Mathematics.


  • Students from the department of Mathematics in Public Authority for Applied Education and Training are allowed to apply to the program provided they have taken the following courses at Kuwait University with a grade of at least B in each course and with cumulative grade average of 3.33 out of the scale of 4 prior to their submission of the application to the program:


i) Advanced Linear Algebra (MATH 363)

ii) Real Analysis (MATH 329)

iii) Complex Analysis (MATH 330)

iv) Introduction to Abstract Algebra I (MATH 261)


I) Degree Students:


Part-time and Full-time students can be admitted into the Mathematical Sciences program provided the following requirements are fulfilled:


i) Minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.67.

ii) Minimum Major Grade Point average (MGPA) of 3.00.

iii) Pass the following courses with an average GPA of B- :


- Math 111 (Linear Algebra).

- Math 211 (Calculus III).

- Math 240 (Ordinary Differential Equations).


iv) The minimum level of the required language test score should not be less than 6 in IELTS, 60 in TOEFL(iBT) or 500 in TOEFL (ITP).

v) Pass an interview conducted by the graduate committee in the department.


II) Non-Degree Students:


Part-time and Full-time students can be admitted into the Mathematical Sciences program provided the following requirements are fulfilled:


i) Minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5.

ii) Minimum Major Grade Point average (MGPA) of 2.67.

iii) Pass the following courses with an average GPA of B- :


- Math 329 (Real Analysis);

- Math 330 (Complex Analysis)

- Math 363 (Advanced Linear Algebra).


iv) The minimum level of the required language test score should not be less than 6 in IELTS, 60 in TOEFL (iBT) or 500 in TOEFL (ITP).

v) Pass an interview conducted by the graduate committee in the department.


1.3. Evaluation Criteria:


To be admitted in the MMS program the student must fulfill the above admission requirements, and pass the interview set by the graduate committee in the department.


1.4. Additional Information: (Student’s Program Committee Members)


A student's program committee must consist of three members: Two members from the Department of Mathematics and one member from the minor program of the student (if any). The supervisor must be from the Department of Mathematics. The chosen courses must be approved by the student's program committee. The student's program and his/her committee must be approved by the graduate program committee.
