Welcome to the Department of Mathematics — the Home of Logic, Discovery, and Future Innovation

Welcome to the Department of Mathematics at Kuwait University, a distinguished academic home where the language of logic meets the creativity of scientific exploration. Since its establishment in 1966, our department has been a cornerstone of the university—advancing learning, research, and innovation across disciplines and contributing to the scientific and intellectual growth of our beloved country.

The Department of Mathematics serves as a vital academic hub supporting a wide range of colleges whose fields rely on mathematics as an essential tool for reasoning, modelling, and analysis. Today, the department offers more than 43 courses delivered across over 139 sections each semester, serving students from Engineering and Petroleum, Medicine, Allied Health, Education, Science, and many other programs.

Our mission is to introduce learners to the world of mathematics not only as a discipline, but as a method of thinking—one that fosters precision, creativity, and a deep understanding of the structures that shape the natural and technological world. Through rigorous training in problem-solving, analytical reasoning, and the study of complex systems, we aim to equip students with the intellectual tools needed to thrive in the modern era.

We take pride in offering comprehensive undergraduate programs in Mathematics and Financial Mathematics, as well as advanced postgraduate programs leading to master’s and doctoral degrees in a broad spectrum of mathematical fields. Our department encompasses strong research groups across algebra, combinatorics, graph theory, analysis, differential equations, applied mathematics, modelling, geometry, topology, functional analysis, dynamical systems, and other contemporary areas.

Our faculty—graduates of globally renowned institutions—bring exceptional expertise and a shared commitment to providing students with a stimulating, supportive, and enriching learning environment. In addition, the department regularly hosts visiting scholars from around the world, fostering international collaboration and advancing the culture of research within the university.
